Miss Universe Through the Years: Including the New Miss Universe 2020

Envision, create and believe! The American-based Miss Universe organization conducts a yearly international beauty pageant that is popularly known as “Miss Universe”. This prominent event captures the attention of the world which makes it one of the most famous pageants around the globe.  

Ever hear of the big four international beauty pageants? Or probably the big league pageants? They refer to the enormous and famous four beauty pageants around the globe which was first defined as the "world's four major beauty contests" by the China Daily Newspaper in the year 2004. They consist of the four most popular pageants namely;

• Miss world – old is gold, and so is miss world! The age old beauty pageant is introduced by the United kingdoms. 

•  Miss international –With its root origin from Tokyo, aims at empowering women and improving their individuality! 
  

• Miss earth – The newborn, Miss Earth, is a nature friendly pageant targeting the environmental theme, acknowledges the why & how to protect our environment.

• Miss universe – Under the Endeavor, Miss universe aims at establishing morals, and might help the world to shape better.
  

Getting down to brass tacks, we are focusing on “Miss Universe” and will be dealing with several aspects of Miss Universe, the winners and most importantly the Philippine winners as part of this article!  

June 28 1952, around 68 years ago, the world witnessed the formation of the Miss Universe in New York City under the presidency of Paula Shugart, an evergreen leader.

An American talent-holding firm, Endeavor organizes Miss Universe events on a yearly basis. A 100 million dollars are annually spent on its budget. Miss Universe aims at supporting or defending and at times arguing for the cause of humanitarianism.  
 
WHO BECOMES THE MISS UNIVERSE?
 
Beauty isn’t the face, it is the light in our soul! Intelligence is as equally necessary as beauty. The contestants are usually presented by the local company or person of the country. But wait, not everyone can get to the international level directly. The country’s local subdivision decides the contestants from the local level, who are promoted to the international level.  And now, the international competitors are judged and determined in three rounds:

• The evening gown
• The swimsuit
• The knowledge round where you're asked a personal question on your intelligence!

The United States had produced the highest count of Miss Universes by winning 8 titles. Next comes Venezuela with 7 titles, Puerto Rico with 5 and Philippines with 4. MORE ABOUT PHILIPPINES!
 
The Philippines holds an evergreen record of the largest win streaks. The Philippines has the longest winning streak and won in 6 consecutive years in at least one of the big four pageants making a record which no other country could. It is also the sole country within the world to secure a win of the biggest titles. With a maximum win of 15 victories in all four pageants, it occupies a unique position in the hearts of the beauty pageants around the globe. Not surprisingly, the powerhouse of beauty, the Philippines also has over 94 placements. Amazing! Isn’t it?  

It has secured 4 Miss Universe titles, one Miss World title, six Miss International crowns and four Miss Earth titles. Now the idiosyncratic nature of the Philippines in the world titles is striking! Binibining Pilipinas, a national beauty pageant in the Philippines is responsible for the selection of Miss Universe representatives. But, moving further forward in time, in 2020, a new organization called the “Miss Universe Philippines organization” is taking account for the selection and promotion of the Miss Universe candidates.  

Now, let’s turn over to take a glance at the winners of Miss Universe presented by Philippines; 

• Miss Universe 1969 – The 18th Miss Universe pageant, held in Florida, United States opened a gateway for Gloria Diaz, who was crowned by Martha Vasconcellos of Brazil. She is the first Filipino to achieve the Miss Universe title conquering over 60 other participants!
  

• Miss Universe 1973 – And here comes the 22nd Miss universe event held in Athens, Greece brought fame and dream to Margie Moran, who was crowned by Kerry Anne Wells of Australia, she overcame all the 61 delegates to make her country proud!  
  

• Miss Universe 2015 – Pia Wurtzbach was crowned the 64th Miss Universe crown in the United States by Pauline Vega. While 80 contestants fought for the crown, her fierceness, uniqueness and confidence made her dream come true!   
  

• Miss Universe 2018 – Catriona Gray, gleefully welcomed the 67th Miss universe title with a bang in Thailand. With over 20 placements, she still remains in the minds of the folk, making the Philippines restore its pride and fame for the fourth time in its history!
