Resiliency of Dabawenyos on the Bombing Incident
Davao is a world famous place because of its honorable recognition famed to be as one
of the safest city on earth. In the previous years, Davao city received numerous commendation
after several surveys were released showing its exceptional performance, more importantly, on becoming a free crime city garnering low rate of corruption, murders, and related instances.
However, a shocking incident puts Dabawenyos into tears and distress after a terror attack
happened within the city. On September 2, 2016, a bomb exploded and blasted Roxas Night Market, Davao City, Philippines causing 15 grieving deaths and 70 people were injured. This event concerns Dabawenyos and Filipinos to be general because many lives were taken, livelihood that were damaged, and security has been affected.
With this bloody happening, the city is now on red alert state. People in Davao were saddened and traumatized hence, safety measures and warnings have been immediately enacted such strict military checkpoints to ensure and regain the peace and order of the city once more. “We are competent of uniting ourselves because we thoroughly understand and embrace unity. We can absolutely stand up and definitely will,” said Agas, DENR Chief of Public Information. This statement clearly proves that Dabawenyos are firm in reaching full recovery, knowing that they have a brave President who is capable of protecting his people, not to mention the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) who are willing to raise the city's name at all cost. Davao City Mayor, Sara Duterte Caprio, stood boldly with her statement, “We will stand up now!” and assured to her people justice for this heinous crime.
Further, a trendy post on social media, PRAY FOR DAVAO, is a moving act of the Filipino
people as a way of showing their sympathy and support for the victims of the said terrorism.
This encourages Dabawenyos to continue to fight, remain strong, and became hopeful for the
same kind of experience not to occur again.
Though blood had shed, tears were falling, and happiness was shaken but, the people of
Davao did not let go of their promise to take the courage and claim their position again.
