Heritage Sites to Visit in the Philippines - Part 2

There are many different types of travellers, some prefer to immerse themselves in the history and culture of the site they’re visiting. 1. Puerto-Princesa Subterranean River National Park


This national park offers a magnificent limestone formations and a subterranean river that is over 8km in length, merging with the sea. You’ll also discover a wide range of habitat with a full ‘mountain-to-sea’ ecosystem, including rainforests. The limestone cave that you’ll encounter is one of the longest river tunnels in the world. Spot various formations, such as the ‘Sharon Stone’ and watch bats and swiftlets flutter.

You can pick between a tourist paddle (allowed to go only 1.5km upstream into the cave) or proceed 4.3km upstream (P1000, four hours return) as long as you secure a permit at least two days in advance. 

2. Baroque Churches of the Philippines

Enjoy the craft of European Baroque architecture of this UNESCO world heritage site. The four historical churches are located in Santa Maria, Paoay, Manila, and Miag-ao. Built by the Spanish, Chinese and Philippine craftsmen and completed during the 16th and 18th centuries.


The churches display the outstanding interpretation of the Baroque style by the Philippines, infusing European design and construction with local decor and materials to form a church building tradition that is entirely unique.


3. Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park



This natural park is the Philippines’ first inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List. If you’re searching for one of the most beautiful coral reefs in Southeast Asia, try Tubbataha Reef. Observe a plethora of marine species in the unique 33,200 hectares of an atoll reef which lies on the Tubbataha Reef National Marine Park. The North Islet portion of serves as a nesting site for turtles and birds.
