Matilda – Roald Dahl

Before I begin, I have to say that the last time I read this book was when I was in grade school and I kept rereading it for the majority of the time. Roald Dahl was one of my ultimate favourite children authors and we had all the books he wrote in the house. I kind of went through a phase where I would go to and back from every book he ever wrote because they were just the kind of books that lit up your imagination. They were great children books but Matilda was the one that struck out from the crowd and it became my favourite one.

Matilda revolves around the story of a peculiar child called you guess it, Matilda Wormwood. She was not weird, not mental, not anything but an incredible genius. Her family, most especially her parents were not even a bit interested in her and so, she pulled practical jokes on them like bleaching her father’s hair and such. At school, she did tremendously well and she befriended her teacher, Miss Honey, who seemed to be the first one to pay any interest in her and noticed her capabilities for such a young girl. She was astonished by what this girl could comprehend and tried reaching out her parents and talking to them about their daughter but as you may know, Matilda is nothing but a girl to them. Also, Miss Honey tried talking to the school’s headmistress, Ms Trunchbull to move her up onto higher levels but sadly she did not seem to be interested either.

Because of this Matilda and Miss Honey bonded and a friendship grew between them. Matilda stoop up for Miss Honey and put her brain into work and Miss Honey support Matilda for all that she is able to do.

I highly recommend this book to children everywhere. They can learn many things and work out their imagination. It’s a good children’s book, I must tell you that, well for me it was. I still find myself looking for it whenever I want a light read. It’s something I am very fond of and it brings back a lot of old memories from my childhood.
