Paper Towns – John Green
ohn Green has written fictional novels such as The Fault In Our Stars, Looking For Alaska, Let It Snow, An Abundance Of Katherines and of course, Paper Towns, the first book of his I ever put my hands on and is by far one of my favourites, next to Looking For Alaska and The Fault In Our Stars.
When I first started reading the book I was immediately sucked into it. I read the book cover to cover and as I flipped page by page, I could already create images of what was happening. It was like I was there and I was witnessing how in the small town of Jefferson Parks, Florida a boy named Quentin or “Q” has hopelessly fallen in love with his neighbour, the reckless it girl of their school, Margo Spiegelman. They were childhood friends but as soon as high school came about, they have grown apart but Q’s crush on her remained. Margo was the reckless popular girl of their hometown and everybody knew what she was capable of. She would go missing some nights, go to parties and do all the cool mysterious girl stuff she would like. Someone like her would never notice a geek like Q... but everything changed when Margo Spiegelman climbed onto Q’s window in the middle of the night. She was on a mission to seek out revenge and need Q’s help for it. He agreed and everything changed that night and then a few days later, she was gone. Being the girl she is, she often goes missing but leaves a couple of clues.
...and she left a clue for Q. This drags Q into the world of Margo Spiegelman, and he takes you a long with it. John Green has impressively written this book in such a way that he gets you so enticed in it because of the mystery and adventure it involves. He knows exactly what spots to hit for you to go from getting butterflies in your tummy to everything else real quick. He knows what it takes to make a book a best seller and what audience to appeal to. I highly recommend this book because I enjoyed it very much, trust me I’m not a big mystery fan and I’m not saying this is a big mysterious book but it’s mysterious enough to keep you going til the end, to find out what happens. This book makes you look at the people around you and wonder what’s going on in their head and if they’re showing enough of themselves to you or if you still have a lot to figure out.
