Benefits Of Learning A New Language
Languages, there are over a thousand
languages in the world. In each and every one of them, a certain group of
people can use and communicate with. Language is a key factor in communication.
I could enumerate the many reasons why communication is significant but all in
all, Communication is important because it is where people find mutual
understanding and agreements. It is where people seek common ground. To be
honest, it has never occurred to me that learning a new language was something
that people should look into. To be even more honest, I never thought I would
look into studying another language but as I began to dedicate my time to
studying French, it became an eye opener because then and there I realized the
many benefits and possibilities you can attain as you become multilingual.
People often tend to disregard trying to
learn a new language because the English language is easily accessed and has
become universal since it is used by people of different cultures or countries.
No one really realizes that having another language at the back of your pocket
comes in handy in numerous occasions because society has grown accustomed to
communicating with the English language. We have to admit though, that not
everyone has grown used to using English as their language, some still use
their native tongue more than we would like. It is inevitable, you will always
come across a language barrier and being open to learning a new language can
make it easier to overcome. I admit that opening up to learning a new language
was hard at first because of the grammar, pronunciation, spelling and etc, all
the difficulties that came with learning a new language but with a little hard
work and determination it truly does pay off because being able to find common
ground with someone from a foreign land has certain perks because you are able
to communicate and cross the barrier between you and that someone. I’ve somehow
attained a certain level of speaking in French and can now ask basic questions
and formulate simple answers in sentences. It has come in handy, not only in
class, but also in the real world because you can see all kinds of words in
different languages all over in different advertisements, and meet people of
different countries.
Being able to speak another tongue not only
benefits you in communicative form, but it also benefits you in health because
your memory improves and with that, it wards off some diseases like Alzheimer’s. You can also get a peek into another country’s culture because a
language can show off a culture as much as the country itself because the words
accumulated from the motherland for specific reasons. Each word was formed from
a certain word, etymology to be exact, for some reason and when you get to know
that reason you are able to see into the culture or mannerism of a country. You
know, if you get my gist. It also helps you socially because you gain the
opportunity to socialize on a different level and create relationships with other
people. It helps you mentally and emotionally because having a language backed
up gives you the confidence to approach people of different kinds.
You can look up the other benefits of
learning another language but it sure is fun and is good for you! Especially
for travellers and people who are genuinely interested in other cultures.
Learning should never be a burden; you should be able to appreciate how good it
is for you. Strive to learn more about the world.
