By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept: A Novel of Forgiveness
Truly, we can never renounce true
love. Once planted within the seedbeds of our hearts, it continues to
grow, sprouting beautiful flowers that blossom. If
nourished, surely it will last a lifetime. That is the lesson which I have learned
from Paulo Coelho’s book “By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept.”
It is about the love story of a
girl named Pilar and a guy whose name is never mentioned at least once in the
story. They are childhood friends; both knew from their childhood that they
already began to feel this thing called love. With many childhood
memories to cherish, both dreamed of having a good life. What separated their path was their dreams; the guy who wanted to be a priest used religion as an outlet for his inner conflicts and Pilar dreams of a successful career, yet had to learn how to bury all her feelings.
Years pass, and after 11
years of separation, they reunite once more. During the times they spend together, different circumstances come their way. One
of the things that shake up the story is his faith and priesthood. He desires to serve the Lord no matter what. As for Pilar, it
is enough for her to give up on the man she truly loves.
The book poses so many questions about
life, love and relationships. These issues bother them and they are forced to re-examine their once adolescent love. Through it all, the love that once begun in
the river of Piedra reaches its full potential, and the author is ready to reflect its
iridescent glow.
This book is sure to inspire the
reader. It tackles love in its truest and purest form. Once you
found someone who makes you a better person and whom you can't live without, do not let that someone go. Because once you’re in love, it is something that shall never be forgotten.
