The Philippines: Love At First Sight
On March 1976, we completed our series of Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney concert tours, and we were on our way back home. Some of my colleagues and I decided that we would make a stopover at Manila and book a connecting flight to Mindanao; Mindanao is one of the biggest islands in the Philippines.
As Darkness engulfed the day, and the black night fell, we were sitting under the Palm trees. I see a flash, and it is a female colleague who has appeared garbed in white. Silently we listen to the splashing of the seaside waves and the strumming of the guitar.
On that moment, I felt as if I was in a dream. I dreamt of coming back, realizing that I could not stay.

Die Philippinen: das war Liebe auf den ersten Blick.
Maerz 1976. Wir hatten unsere Konzerte in Adelaide, Melbourne und Sydney hinter uns, ein Teil des Orchesters stieg beim Rueckflug in Manila aus, flog dann nach Mindanao weiter, nun war unvermittelt schwarze Nacht eingefallen, wir sassen am Swimmingpool unter Palmen, aus dem Dunkel - von der Meeresseite her - loeste sich eine Kollegin in Weiss, wir hoerten das leise Plaetschern der Wellen, Gitarrenklaenge... - und da wuesste ich: das alles ist ein Traum, es ist nur ein Traum! Und der Wunsch nach Wiederkehr kam schon bein Traeumen ( da ich doch nicht bleiben konnte).
