The skies turn grey as the nation mourns on the morning of September 27, 2016 with the passing away with Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago due to lung cancer. She made a name for herself as the Iron Lady of Filipino Politics in a career path mostly dominated by the opposite sex and made it clear that she was in this path for she strongly believed in the possibility of change in the Philippines with one bill at a time.
Miriam is a woman who has set the bar high for Filipino politics, she is known for passing bill after bill and winning over cases in the senate with her witty and intelligent remarks. This woman is highly respected, adored and feared by many. She is woman that embodies the phrase “thirsty for knowledge” as she thinks of herself as a Knowledge Vulture, where she enjoys learning new things on the daily and engaging herself in extra curricular activities.
She is a wonderful example to the youth today. She sees the value of education and promotes that idea to numerous young audiences. No wonder a lot of millennials have rooted for her since the start of her campaign. Her thirst for knowledge might as well be the secret to her success in Filipino politics.
I recall watching the presidential debates a few months ago, the debacle and ex her fight powerchange of platforms were Duterte refused to ask Madam Miriam any questions except for “How are you today?” because to him and to many, to question Miriam’s credentials and platforms if she were to be elected as president is considered an insult to a woman of such high caliber.
This woman, from the very start and until the very end, was a fighter like no other. She had the balls of a man and faced death threats on the daily. She passed thousands of bills that we took for granted. She was considered as the best president this country never had. Death took her in her sleep but ah, if death came when she was awake, death would have not stood a chance.
